OpenAI has postponed the release of its planned “adult mode” for ChatGPT, delaying the feature for a second time.
According to a report by Engadget, the company confirmed that development is ongoing but has been deprioritized in favor of features expected to benefit a broader range of users.
No new release date
The feature, which was initially expected to launch in December 2025 and later pushed to early 2026, now has no confirmed release timeline. OpenAI has not provided details on when it might become available.
Focus shifts to core improvements
OpenAI stated that resources are currently being directed toward higher-priority updates and improvements across the platform, suggesting that experimental or niche features may take longer to roll out.
Still in development
Despite the delay, the feature has not been canceled. It remains under development, indicating that OpenAI is continuing to explore expanded conversational capabilities—albeit on a slower timeline.
The repeated delays highlight the company’s cautious approach as it balances new features with broader platform stability and user impact.
