Google Releases Chrome 148 With More Than 100 Security Fixes

Google Chrome version 148 has officially launched for Windows, macOS and Linux, bringing one of the browser’s largest recent security updates. According to Google, the release patches more than 100 vulnerabilities, including several classified as critical risk flaws.

The new desktop versions include builds 148.0.7778.96 and 148.0.7778.97 for Windows and macOS, while Linux users receive version 148.0.7778.96. Google says none of the vulnerabilities fixed in this release are currently known to be actively exploited.

More Than 120 Vulnerabilities Patched

Google confirmed that Chrome 148 resolves a total of 127 security vulnerabilities, more than double the number addressed in the previous Chrome 147 release.

Among the flaws, three have been categorized as critical severity issues. One vulnerability, identified as CVE-2026-7896, involves an integer overflow problem inside Blink, Chrome’s rendering engine. Two additional critical flaws, CVE-2026-7897 and CVE-2026-7898, are use-after-free vulnerabilities affecting Chrome’s Mobile and Chromoting components.

The company also classified 31 vulnerabilities as high risk, with many connected to memory handling issues. Another 66 vulnerabilities fall under medium severity, while 27 are labeled low risk.

Google reported that its internal security systems and automated analysis tools discovered 100 of the vulnerabilities directly, while external researchers identified the remaining flaws. The company has already paid approximately $138,000 in bug bounty rewards tied to the release.

New Features Continue Rolling Out Slowly

Although security improvements dominate the update, Chrome 148 also continues work on several interface changes planned for upcoming releases.

Google is preparing support for vertical tab layouts, allowing tabs to appear along the side of the browser instead of across the top. The browser’s Reading Mode is also expected to receive a fullscreen-style redesign for a more immersive experience.

However, both features remain unavailable for many users despite originally being expected earlier this year.

Android and iOS Versions Also Updated

Google has additionally released Chrome 148 for Android under version 148.0.7778.120, while iOS devices previously received version 148.0.7778.100.

The Android release addresses the same security vulnerabilities fixed in the desktop versions. Users are encouraged to manually check for updates through Chrome’s “About Google Chrome” section if automatic updates have not yet been installed.

Google is expected to launch Chrome 149 in early June.
