Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics has received regulatory approval to proceed with a Shanghai stock market listing, bringing one of the country’s most anticipated technology IPOs a step closer as investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and robotics continues to grow.

The company plans to raise approximately 4.2 billion yuan ($619 million) through its listing on Shanghai’s STAR Market, China’s technology-focused exchange. The proceeds will primarily fund next-generation AI model development, humanoid robot research, new product innovation, and expansion of intelligent manufacturing capacity.

Unitree has become one of China’s most recognizable robotics companies through its portfolio of humanoid robots, quadruped robots, and robotic components. Recent demonstrations of its machines have attracted global attention and reinforced China’s ambition to become a leader in embodied artificial intelligence, where AI systems interact directly with the physical world.

The IPO arrives as China’s domestic equity market shows renewed momentum following an extended slowdown. More importantly, it serves as a major test of investor appetite for robotics companies, a sector receiving increasing strategic support from Beijing as automation becomes central to national industrial policy.

Unlike earlier generations of industrial automation firms, Unitree represents a new wave of robotics companies integrating advanced AI directly into mobile robots designed for manufacturing, logistics, research, and eventually consumer applications. The company is expected to invest heavily in both robot hardware and proprietary AI models, reflecting the industry’s shift toward tightly integrated intelligent systems.

The listing also underscores China’s broader strategy of strengthening its domestic robotics ecosystem. Alongside investments in AI chips, semiconductor manufacturing, and autonomous systems, humanoid robotics has become a priority technology area as the country seeks greater competitiveness in future industrial automation.

If the IPO is successful, Unitree could become a benchmark for public market valuations across China’s rapidly expanding robotics sector and provide additional capital to accelerate innovation in embodied AI.
