U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new memorandum aimed at sharply increasing commercial space activity, with the White House targeting at least 1,000 launches and re-entries per year by 2030.
The policy directs federal agencies to identify government land that could be used for new launch and re-entry sites, accelerate permitting and environmental reviews, and expand infrastructure partnerships with private space companies.
The administration is also pushing for a more commercial-first space strategy, including greater private-sector involvement in lunar transportation, robotic missions to Mars and future human missions beyond Earth.
Trump has set a goal of returning U.S. astronauts to the Moon by 2028, while the new policy also calls for initial Moon Base elements by 2030 and stronger commercial support for national security launch capabilities.
The memorandum comes as the U.S. commercial space sector continues to expand rapidly, led by companies such as SpaceX, which already accounts for a large share of American launch activity.
The policy also seeks to integrate space transportation more closely with air traffic control systems and improve access to wireless spectrum needed for launch operations.
