Asus has just unveiled one of the most unusual peripherals in recent memory—the Asus Fragrance Mouse MD101. As the name suggests, this isn’t just any ordinary wireless mouse. It emits a fragrance thanks to an internal scented oil compartment, marking a first-of-its-kind feature in PC accessories. After decades of ergonomic refinements, high DPI sensors, and customizable RGB lighting, Asus has taken a different approach, infusing aromatherapy into productivity.

In terms of functionality, the Fragrance Mouse keeps things relatively simple. It features a 2,400 DPI optical sensor, a scroll wheel, and the standard left and right buttons, but no additional thumb buttons or gaming-specific features. It supports dual-mode wireless connectivity, offering Bluetooth and a 2.4GHz USB dongle that conveniently stores inside the mouse. Powering it all is a single AA battery. The mouse comes in pink and white color variants, with a smooth, curved design that oddly resembles an air freshener—perhaps a fitting choice given its core functionality.

The real highlight here is the aromatic oil compartment. This removable, washable chamber allows users to add their preferred essential oils or scented blends, theoretically enhancing the user’s experience with calming or invigorating scents. There’s no mention of a built-in diffuser or heating element, meaning the fragrance likely disperses through natural evaporation or the warmth of your hand. Interestingly, Asus does not include any oil in the package, so users will have to supply their own.

Asus has yet to confirm pricing, availability, or regional release details. However, given its unique premise, the Fragrance Mouse could appeal to those who enjoy personalized workspace aesthetics—or just want a PC setup that smells as good as it looks. While we wait for more details, one can only wonder if Asus might expand this scented peripheral concept to keyboards, perhaps adding a multi-sensory typing experience to the mix.
