Dynabook Revives the Portege Laptop With a User-Replaceable Battery

After a decade-long absence from the consumer market, the Portege laptop is making a comeback—this time with a user-replaceable battery.

Dynabook, the brand that took over Toshiba’s PC business in 2018 under Sharp, has unveiled the Portege Z40L-N, a $1,699 business laptop featuring Intel’s new Core Ultra Series 2 processors. Available for purchase immediately, the Z40L-N is offered in fixed EZ-Buy configurations as well as customizable Built-to-Order models, making it a flexible option for a range of users.

This 14-inch laptop is built from lightweight magnesium, ensuring durability while maintaining a professional look. It runs on Intel Core Ultra 5 226V and up to Core Ultra 7 268V with vPro, paired with 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5 memory and up to 2TB of storage. The 1920×1200 display offers a solid balance of clarity and efficiency, while the 65Wh battery—marketed as user-replaceable—promises extended longevity. While Dynabook has yet to confirm whether replacement batteries will be available directly from its store, the design prioritizes easy maintenance and long-term usability.

The Portege Z40L-N also comes with two Thunderbolt ports, providing ample connectivity for high-speed peripherals. Dynabook is offering a selection of docks and accessories to complement the device, making it a versatile addition to a mobile workstation.

Customers who opt for EZ-Buy prebuilt models will receive a three-year warranty, while those who choose Built-to-Order configurations will enjoy an extended four-year warranty. With the Portege line officially returning to consumer availability, Dynabook is re-establishing itself as a key player in the premium business laptop market.
