Thunderbird Introduces @Thundermail.com Email Service with Premium Features

Mozilla’s open-source email client Thunderbird is stepping up its offerings by launching a new personalized email address service, @thundermail.com, under the Thunderbird Pro subscription. This development, reported by The Verge, will give users the option to have a custom email address, alongside a range of additional tools designed to boost productivity.

The Thunderbird Pro service isn’t just about email — it will also include premium features such as an appointment scheduler, file sharing tools, and AI-powered assistance through a feature called Thunderbird Assist. These enhancements aim to offer a comprehensive email experience, making it a more robust alternative to mainstream services like Gmail.

While Thundermail is still in the early stages of development, the timeline for its official release and pricing details remain unclear. What is certain, however, is that the service will have both free and paid versions, giving users a choice depending on their needs.

Ryan Sipes, Thunderbird’s managing director, shared his vision for the service, stating that it is the goal of the company to create an open-source, freedom-respecting alternative to established email providers. “It is my conviction that all of this should have been a part of the Thunderbird universe a decade ago,” Sipes explained. Despite the delayed rollout, he believes it’s “better late than never” to bring such an offering to users who prioritize privacy and control.
