Anthropic, the AI firm supported by Google and Amazon, will open its first India office in 2026, capitalizing on the country’s rapidly growing AI adoption and tech talent pool.
The new site in Bengaluru will serve as Anthropic’s second Asia-Pacific base after Tokyo. CEO Dario Amodei will visit India this week to meet officials and corporate leaders as the company prepares to launch operations.
India has become Anthropic’s second-largest market for its chatbot Claude, which competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. With over a billion internet users and surging enterprise demand, India is emerging as a key arena for global AI competition — including OpenAI, Google’s Gemini, and Perplexity.
Last month, Anthropic said it would triple its global workforce to meet the rising international demand for Claude models.
