Stellantis (STLAM.MI) has partnered with Chinese autonomous driving firm Pony.ai (PONY.O) to develop and test Level 4 self-driving electric vans across Europe, the companies announced Friday.

The collaboration will integrate Pony.ai’s autonomous software stack with Stellantis’ battery-electric medium-sized van platform, enabling hands-free, eyes-off driving. Testing will begin in Luxembourg using the Peugeot e-Traveller, with plans for expansion to other European cities by 2026.

Pony.ai, founded in 2016, already operates fully driverless robotaxi fleets in major Chinese cities and will manage the European operations from its Luxembourg division.

The partnership’s first phase will target light commercial vehicles (LCVs), an area where Stellantis’ Pro One unit is a market leader in Europe. Both companies said their efforts would emphasize safety, regulatory compliance, and performance validation before commercial deployment.

The alliance highlights how automakers are increasingly joining forces with tech firms to accelerate the deployment of autonomous and electric mobility solutions in key global markets.
