Valve has officially ended production of the Steam Deck LCD, the most affordable version of its handheld gaming PC, according to a report from Windows Latest. During the Steam Winter Sale, Valve quietly added a note to the Steam Deck product page stating that the LCD model would be discontinued once existing stock was depleted — and that stock has now sold out.
Launched in 2022 with a starting price of $399, the Steam Deck LCD played a key role in popularizing handheld gaming PCs. Its relatively low entry price helped Valve reach a wider audience and positioned the Steam Deck as a serious alternative to traditional consoles and gaming laptops, especially for PC gamers looking for portable access to their Steam libraries.
With the LCD model gone, Valve will now exclusively sell the Steam Deck OLED. That version starts at $549 and brings several upgrades, including a higher-quality OLED display, improved battery life, and other refinements introduced with the refreshed hardware. While the OLED model offers a better overall experience, the higher price point removes the Steam Deck’s most budget-friendly option.
Valve has not provided an official explanation for discontinuing the LCD version, but rising component costs — particularly for memory and storage — may be a contributing factor. The company has also reiterated that a potential Steam Deck 2 is still a long way off, suggesting that the current OLED model will remain Valve’s primary handheld offering for the foreseeable future.
