Ormat Technologies has signed a long-term agreement with NV Energy to deliver 150 megawatts of geothermal power aimed at supporting Google’s operations in Nevada.
The deal will enable Ormat to develop new geothermal projects across the state, with facilities expected to become operational between 2028 and 2030. The initiative reflects a growing trend among major technology firms seeking stable and carbon-free energy sources to meet the rising electricity demands of AI-driven data centres.
Unlike wind and solar, geothermal power offers consistent energy output without intermittency, making it an increasingly attractive option for companies requiring reliable infrastructure.
The agreement also highlights the expanding role of renewable energy in powering digital infrastructure as electricity demand continues to grow alongside the rapid build-out of AI and crypto-related facilities.
Following the announcement, Ormat’s shares rose by more than 4%.
