iFixit has awarded a perfect repairability score to the latest Lenovo ThinkPad T-series laptops, highlighting a growing shift toward user-friendly, repairable hardware.
The models in question—ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 and ThinkPad T16 Gen 5—build on years of incremental improvements, with design input from iFixit itself.
Designed to be fixed, not replaced
The new T-series stands out for its modular, easy-to-access components, including:
- Tool-free removable battery
- Replaceable keyboard and display
- Modular USB-C ports and cooling fans
- Standard, upgradeable internal components
Most repairs can be completed with basic tools, marking a significant improvement over many modern laptops.
A shift toward right-to-repair
iFixit, known for advocating consumer repair rights, has previously scored older ThinkPad models lower—such as the T14 Gen 3, which received a 7/10. The steady improvement reflects a broader industry push toward repairability.
New memory standard included
The laptops also feature LPCAMM2 memory, a newer format that offers higher speeds and lower power consumption while remaining user-replaceable—unlike soldered RAM found in many devices.
Launch and pricing
The updated ThinkPad T14 and T16 are expected to launch in April, with starting prices around $1,500.
With repairability becoming a bigger concern for consumers, Lenovo’s latest ThinkPads show that performance and long-term usability don’t have to be at odds.
