Chrome 150 Fixes Nearly 400 Security Vulnerabilities in Major Update
Google has released Chrome 150 for Windows, macOS, and Linux, delivering one of the browser’s largest security updates to date. The new stable release fixes 382 security vulnerabilities, including 15 classified as critical, although Google says none of the flaws have been exploited in real-world attacks so far.
The update is now rolling out automatically to desktop and mobile users.
Hundreds of Security Issues Patched
According to Google’s release notes, Chrome 150 addresses a total of 382 vulnerabilities.
Of those:
- 15 are classified as critical
- 67 are rated high severity
- 169 are medium severity
- 131 are low severity
Google discovered 358 of the vulnerabilities internally, while independent security researchers identified the remaining issues. The company awarded nearly $90,000 in bug bounty rewards for externally reported vulnerabilities.
Critical Vulnerabilities Include Memory Errors
Most of the critical flaws involve use-after-free (UAF) vulnerabilities, a type of memory management bug that attackers can potentially exploit to execute malicious code.
Several of these vulnerabilities affect components such as the Dawn graphics library, while three critical issues stem from insufficient validation of input data, allowing specially crafted data or user input to trigger unexpected behavior.
Implementation and Input Validation Were Major Weaknesses
Among all vulnerabilities fixed in Chrome 150, the largest categories include:
- 82 inappropriate implementation flaws
- 79 insufficient input validation issues
- 72 use-after-free vulnerabilities
Given the unusually large number of fixes, many observers believe Google’s AI-powered security tools likely played a significant role in discovering—and possibly helping remediate—a substantial portion of the issues.
Updates Available Across Platforms
Alongside the desktop release, Google has also published updated versions for mobile devices:
- Chrome 150.0.7871.63 for Android
- Chrome 150.0.7871.51 for iOS
The Extended Stable Channel (ESC) for Windows and macOS has also been updated to Chromium 150.0.7871.47, bringing the same security protections to enterprise users.
How to Update Chrome
Chrome typically installs updates automatically in the background.
To manually check for updates:
- Open Chrome.
- Select Help → About Google Chrome (or navigate to Settings → About Chrome).
- Allow the browser to download and install any available updates.
- Restart Chrome if prompted.
Chrome 151 Coming Soon
Google has confirmed that Chrome 151 is expected to arrive later this month.
While none of the vulnerabilities fixed in Chrome 150 are currently known to be under active attack, installing the latest version as soon as possible is recommended to ensure protection against newly disclosed security flaws.
