Google has temporarily disabled its new AI image generation feature in Google Earth, just one day after launch, following reports of users creating content that appeared to violate company policies.

Powered by the Nano Banana 2 AI model, the feature allowed users to generate photorealistic images based on Google Earth’s satellite and 3D map data using text prompts.

Google said the tool was being paused while it develops stronger safety measures, after screenshots of questionable AI-generated images circulated online. The company noted that the generated images were watermarked and did not appear in the standard Google Earth experience.

The move highlights the ongoing challenge technology companies face in balancing powerful AI capabilities with safeguards against misinformation and misuse.
