Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series introduces a plethora of novel features propelled by generative AI, each aiming to redefine user experience in its own right. Among these innovations, Instant Slow-Mo emerges as a standout favorite, delivering precisely what its name suggests.
With Instant Slow-Mo, the process is as effortless as it is enchanting. A simple press and hold on any video within the Galaxy S24’s gallery seamlessly transitions it into slow motion, courtesy of Samsung’s adept utilization of generative AI to interpolate new frames. Available across the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, this feature embodies Samsung’s commitment to innovation, promising eventual integration into the Galaxy S23 series.
Having put Instant Slow-Mo through its paces during my Galaxy S24 Ultra review, one particular moment stands out—an encounter with a Boston Dynamics robotic dog navigating the environs outside Samsung’s research and development center.
Yet, Instant Slow-Mo isn’t devoid of shortcomings. While the experience of previewing footage in slow motion is seamless, the process of saving it in that format leaves much to be desired. Navigating through menus to adjust speed post-preview disrupts the otherwise fluid experience, highlighting an area ripe for refinement.
While Instant Slow-Mo may not herald a smartphone revolution, its playful allure underscores the transformative potential of generative AI in reinvigorating mundane smartphone tasks. Much like the advent of portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, Instant Slow-Mo serves as a testament to the incremental innovations that redefine user interaction, albeit without warranting a phone upgrade solely for its sake.
