October 2025 is shaping up to be a major transition point for Microsoft users, as the company is officially ending support for several widely used products, including Windows 10, Office 2016, and Office 2019. For millions of users, this means no more security updates or patches, leaving systems increasingly vulnerable over time. Microsoft’s clear strategy is to push users toward its subscription-based Microsoft 365 offering, which ensures continuous updates and cloud connectivity. However, not everyone is eager to make the switch, especially those who prefer the stability of perpetual licenses or who simply don’t want to commit to ongoing subscription fees.

Fortunately, there’s now a compelling alternative for those who wish to continue using their existing software securely. A service called 0patch, which has already gained attention for extending the usable life of Windows 10, has announced expanded coverage to include both Office 2016 and Office 2019. For Windows 10 users, 0patch is already well-known for providing up to five additional years of critical security updates beyond Microsoft’s official October 2025 cutoff. This ensures that even after mainstream support ends, users can still maintain a safe and patched operating environment.

The newest development is that 0patch will also provide ongoing security updates for Office 2016 and Office 2019 for up to three years after Microsoft officially stops supporting them. This effectively means that instead of being forced off these versions in late 2025, users could continue running them safely until the end of 2028. That’s a significant extension, particularly for businesses or individuals who rely on these versions and aren’t ready to make the leap to Microsoft 365.

Of course, the service does come with a cost, though it’s relatively affordable when weighed against the alternatives. To access extended updates for Windows 10, Office 2016, or Office 2019, you’ll need either a 0patch Pro subscription at €24.95 per year or the more advanced 0patch Enterprise plan at €34.95 per year. For many, this could be a small price to pay to avoid disruption and to continue working with familiar tools without compromising on security.
