Mechanical keyboards continue to evolve at a rapid pace, and Keychron is once again pushing the boundaries with its latest creation: the Q16 HE, a fully ceramic keyboard. Ceramic keycaps have recently become a high-end trend among enthusiasts, prized for their weight, polished feel, and distinctive clack that is unlike even the most premium plastic alternatives. Keychron has taken this a step further by crafting not only the keycaps but also the entire body of the Q16 HE from ceramic, delivering an all-in-one tactile and aesthetic experience.

The Q16 HE retains much of the premium design of Keychron’s high-end Q series. It features Hall effect linear switches with adjustable actuation, hot-swap switch sockets, RGB lighting, and programmable options via the Keychron Launcher web app. The 65% layout is offered in both black and white variants, maintaining a minimalist yet refined look. Performance-focused features such as an “8,000Hz polling rate” and a “rapid trigger” function highlight its responsiveness, although Keychron has not positioned this keyboard explicitly as a gaming device under its Lemokey sublabel.

Interestingly, the Q16 HE is not wireless, suggesting that the company may have opted to prioritize performance and signal integrity over portability. The ceramic material itself may also interfere with wireless connectivity, or perhaps the magnetic switch technology would drain a battery too quickly. Regardless, the keyboard appears aimed squarely at enthusiasts seeking a premium typing experience rather than casual gamers looking for a portable or wireless option.

Keychron has not revealed a launch date for the Q16 HE, but it is expected to debut on Kickstarter, as is typical for the company’s high-end releases. No pricing has been confirmed yet, though given that standalone ceramic keycaps can cost over $100, it’s reasonable to anticipate a premium price point. The Q16 HE represents Keychron’s ongoing effort to innovate in the mechanical keyboard space, blending cutting-edge materials with advanced customization and performance features.
