Windows 11’s right-click Context Menu is getting a thoughtful redesign to tackle years of clutter and inefficiency. In a recent WinUI Community Call, Microsoft highlighted a revamp called the Split Context Menu, aimed at making the menu truly contextual and more user-friendly. The current MenuFlyoutItem control doesn’t allow split actions, which has contributed to overly long and sometimes confusing menus.
The new SplitMenuFlyoutItem control will allow developers to define primary and secondary actions, creating context-aware groupings that adapt to user selections. This approach will enable cleaner submenus, helping users quickly find what they need without wading through irrelevant options. While no release date has been confirmed, the update will first roll out as part of a WinUI API before being tested by Windows Insiders.
This change could significantly improve daily workflows for power users, reducing friction and making Windows 11’s Context Menu feel more intuitive and efficient.
