Nissan is strengthening its collaboration with UK-based software firm Monolith to speed up the development of new vehicles through artificial intelligence. After successfully reducing the testing time for chassis bolt tightening on the new electric Nissan Leaf, the automaker plans to apply the same AI-driven approach to future European models.
Emma Deutsch, Director at Nissan Technical Centre Europe, said that while Chinese automakers can launch new models in just 18 months, Nissan aims to catch up by leveraging AI to streamline testing processes. By analyzing decades of physical test data — going back to the 1992 launch of the Nissan Micra — the company has already cut the bolt-tightening test duration from six months to five and plans to shorten it further to three.
The partnership now extends to tyre and battery testing, with the goal of reducing overall vehicle testing time by up to 20%. Monolith’s recent acquisition by AI data centre operator Coreweave is expected to boost innovation in automotive research and development, making car production faster and more efficient.
