South Korea’s two largest memory chip manufacturers, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, are set to significantly expand their role in the global artificial intelligence supply chain through long-term semiconductor partnerships valued at approximately $950 billion with major U.S. technology companies.

According to South Korean presidential adviser Kim Yong-beom, the agreements include approximately $750 billion in long-term memory chip supplies from SK Hynix to leading U.S. technology firms, including Nvidia, while Samsung Electronics is expected to provide around $200 billion worth of semiconductor products to Broadcom.

The announcement highlights the growing strategic importance of advanced memory chips as AI infrastructure investment continues to accelerate worldwide. High-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other advanced memory technologies have become essential components in AI accelerators and data center servers, enabling the performance required for training and running increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence models.

For SK Hynix, the reported partnership further strengthens its position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of AI memory solutions. The company has benefited from surging demand for HBM products, particularly from Nvidia, whose GPUs remain the dominant hardware platform for generative AI workloads.

Samsung, meanwhile, continues to expand its presence across the AI semiconductor ecosystem. In addition to manufacturing advanced memory chips, the company is investing heavily in next-generation semiconductor technologies as it competes for a larger share of the rapidly growing AI hardware market.

The scale of the reported agreements also reflects the increasingly close technological cooperation between South Korea’s semiconductor industry and major U.S. technology companies. As cloud providers and AI developers continue building large-scale data centers, demand for advanced memory is expected to remain one of the fastest-growing segments of the global semiconductor market.

Beyond their commercial significance, the partnerships reinforce South Korea’s position as a critical supplier within the global AI supply chain. Together, Samsung and SK Hynix manufacture a substantial share of the world’s advanced memory chips, making their production capacity increasingly vital to the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The agreements also demonstrate how AI investment is extending beyond processors alone. While GPUs have attracted much of the attention, memory technologies are becoming equally important as model sizes, data volumes, and computing requirements continue to grow.
