Windows 11 24H2 users may be facing a new headache following August’s optional update KB5064081. After initially fixing an audio bug, Microsoft now warns that the update could interfere with video playback on PCs. Specifically, Digital TV apps, Blu-ray players, and DVD software that rely on the legacy Enhanced Video Renderer component may struggle with DRM-protected or HDCP-protected content.
Affected users could see copyright protection error messages, black screens, or frozen videos when trying to play movies from their Blu-ray or DVD libraries. Microsoft confirms that this problem does not impact streaming services, so platforms like Netflix or Disney+ remain unaffected.
At the moment, there’s no official fix available. Microsoft says it is working on a solution for future updates. Until then, users experiencing issues may need to rely on alternative playback hardware or stick to streaming content to avoid disruptions.
