Samsung SDI has announced plans to sell 13.09 million shares in Samsung Display back to the display maker for approximately 4.45 trillion won ($3.21 billion).
The transaction is designed to raise funds for future growth investments as Samsung SDI increases spending on strategic areas such as batteries and next-generation technologies.
Samsung Display will repurchase the shares as treasury stock at 340,000 won per share, with the transaction expected to close on August 27. The final value and number of shares could still change during the repurchase process.
Following the sale, Samsung SDI will continue to hold 26.77 million Samsung Display shares, representing a 10.22% stake in the company.
The deal gives Samsung SDI additional financial flexibility while allowing it to retain a meaningful ownership position in Samsung Display.
