Google Earth Pro Desktop App Will No Longer Be Available for Download After June 2027

Google has announced that Google Earth Pro will no longer be available for download beginning June 25, 2027, marking the end of new installations for the long-running desktop application. Existing users won’t lose access, however—anyone who already has the software installed will still be able to continue using it after the download deadline.

The change reflects Google’s ongoing shift toward its web-based and mobile versions of Google Earth.

Existing Installations Will Continue to Work

The upcoming change only affects the ability to download Google Earth Pro in the future.

Users who already have the desktop application installed can continue using it beyond June 25, 2027. However, anyone who may want to reinstall the software later should download and archive a copy before the deadline.

Google Wants Users to Switch to the Web Version

Google says the web edition of Google Earth now includes most of the desktop application’s core functionality while adding several newer features, including:

The company is encouraging users to migrate to the browser-based version or the Android and iOS mobile apps.

Users with existing Google Earth projects don’t have to start over.

Google provides tools and documentation for importing:

• “My Places” data

These can be transferred into the web or mobile versions to preserve saved locations, custom maps, and other projects.

Why Some Users May Still Prefer Earth Pro

Despite the feature improvements available online, Google Earth Pro still offers one major advantage: offline access.

The desktop application allows users to explore previously downloaded maps and data without an internet connection, making it especially useful for field work, travel, education, and environments with limited connectivity.
