Microsoft is pushing deeper into agentic AI with a new experimental feature called Copilot Tasks. The tool is designed to go beyond answering prompts by actively carrying out multi-step actions on a user’s behalf.
Microsoft describes Copilot Tasks as an intelligent to-do system that doesn’t just track assignments—it completes them. Users can ask it to handle recurring activities such as drafting a weekly plan every Monday, reviewing important emails each evening, or suggesting responses to selected messages.
The scope goes beyond simple reminders. According to Microsoft, Copilot Tasks will be able to plan and manage events like birthday parties, track subscriptions and cancel unused services, and even research and book tradespeople when needed. The system can break down these objectives into smaller steps and execute them automatically.
At launch, Copilot Tasks is labeled a “research preview,” meaning it remains in an early development phase. The company has not provided a public release timeline, and broader availability could take time depending on testing results and user feedback.
Users interested in early access can sign up for a waiting list to test the preview version. With Copilot Tasks, Microsoft is clearly aiming to position Copilot not just as an assistant, but as an autonomous digital agent capable of managing real-world responsibilities.
