Microsoft 365 Companions: New File Search Feature Coming to Windows 11
At Ignite 2024, Microsoft introduced a game-changing feature called Microsoft 365 Companions, designed to integrate directly with Windows 11’s taskbar and Start menu. This addition promises to enhance the user experience by making it quicker and easier to access a wealth of information and tools with just a few clicks.
One of the first features to be tested under this initiative is the File Search Companion, which promises to streamline file searches across Microsoft 365 apps and OneDrive. As reported by Windows Latest, this web-based tool will be available directly from the Windows 11 taskbar, allowing users to quickly search for both local and cloud-synced files.
The File Search Companion is designed to be pinned to the taskbar, and when activated, a fly-out pop-up will appear, enabling users to search through recent files, shared documents, and files relevant to their teams, people, or keywords. A key feature will be the ability to narrow down searches by file type (for instance, filtering specifically for Word documents or Excel spreadsheets), making it easier than ever to find the files you need.
While Microsoft hasn’t provided a specific release date, the File Search Companion is expected to be available to Windows 11 users in the coming months. If this feature is any indication, the Microsoft 365 Companions program could be a valuable addition to the operating system, enhancing productivity and making file management more seamless
